If you’re like me, you love a good value. Shopping a good sale, discovering a good consignment store, scoring at a good estate sale. I love treasures!  A good bargain, or a hefty price – I look for “value” most of all.  My filter is…do I love it, & am I gonna love it for a long time?

Real estate is like that: when you buy what you love, you’ll never go wrong.

In a world where buyers have so much pressure on making the right decision, I want to give you permission to buy what you love.

This new year, I want you to be able to buy your treasure & make yourself at home

Our amazing real estate professionals will do the legwork to ensure that your treasure is also a good value.

Are You On a Broken Escalator?

escalator

Have you seen the awesome short video of the broken escalator parable? Broken Escalator Video

Two people are stuck on an escalator. We know that they’re executives because in addition to being well dressed, they each appear to be stressed & in a hurry.

Suddenly, with a lurch, the escalator comes to a stop. Both executives are now trapped on a broken escalator, apparently unable to get to safety. The first executive sighs in frustration, while the second starts calling for help. Here are important people, executives, unable to get to where they need to go because the escalator has broken & there’s no one to fix it or rescue them.

Just like many of us, they’d become so used to a machine moving them forward, they couldn’t see beyond the feeling of being stuck.

Too many of us are unable to see that all we have to do is walk right off the escalator. The stairs are there, they’re part of it. They’re not as automatic or as convenient as a functioning escalator, but they beat being stuck.

Chinese contemporary artist & activist, Ai Weiwei, says it best:  My favorite word?  It’s ‘act.’

Are you waiting for things to be perfect before you begin, or do you choose to execute & learn along the way? Are you waiting for success to happen for you, or do you choose to do the work that will make you successful? Are you waiting for someone to save you, or do you choose to save yourself?

When you’re a business person, you’re 20 contacts a day away from becoming a millionaire. You might not set an appt the first day. You might get hung up on. You might hear 20 no’s before 1 yes. Trust the process. You win when you keep playing.

When you’re overcome by grief, betrayal, or depression, you’re 3 gratitude acknowledgements & 3 success acknowledgements a day away from finding healing. The most successful thing you might do all day is put one foot in front of the other. Or, eat lunch. Trust the process. You win when you keep playing.

The problem is freedom. Not that we don’t have enough freedom but that we can’t handle the freedom we have. Or more accurately, we believe we can’t handle it.

Freedom brings the appearance of risk.
Freedom brings responsibility.
Freedom means we must make a choice.
Freedom is our problem & freedom is our opportunity.

Realize that it’s your turn, it’s always your turn. Understand that once you see the opportunity, it’s yours.

Find the solution. Overcome the hurdle. Get over it. Reach out. Lead generate. Follow a model. Trust the process. Create opportunities. Share wildly. Stand up and lead. Put your learning to work. Fail fast. Fail often. Care. Connect. Choose. Initiate. Do what matters. Acknowledge that it’s your turn.

Be the person who acts. Be the person who creates a ruckus. Be the person who makes change. Be willing to seek out the tension that change brings. Change creates tension & tension creates change.

It might not work. Then again, what if it does?

Millennials: Capitalize On Your Love/Hate Relationship

Millennials: love ’em, hate ’em, yet what you can’t do is ignore them. They make up half of the U.S. workforce…

If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em – here’s how to harness their unique traits to take your biz to infinity & beyond:

  1. Stop the micro-managing hierarchy. M’s work harder & get better results when they can follow their project through from idea to implementation…& see it make an impact. IMPACT – more on that later.  Huge buzzword for these kids. Here’s the nitty gritty: give ’em freedom & hold them accountable.
  2. Have a larger calling. M’s are driven by mission. Get the most outta them by building a culture of GROWTH & IMPACT. They want to do well & they want to give back – & the 2 are not mutually exclusive. Sense of purpose: nail it & they’ll stick with ya.
  3. Digital communication. M’s grew up in the FB & Twitter dynamic, so it makes sense that they’re not particularly excited about chatting on the phone or long meetings. A task management system is your holy grail with M’s – share fdbk often via a system & let them build.
  4. Face-2-face vs Face Time.  M’s crave a sense of belonging.  Don’t confuse their preference of digital communication with their need for leadership & mentorship.  Wanna win big with M’s?  Save “real” communication for 1 on 1 time & make it count!

Mobilizing & maneuvering these “New Boomers” can give you the competitive advantage to sustainably scale your biz for years to come!

Hello Austin! Tex Mex – It’s What’s for Dinner!

What do you do when you move to Austin, TX? Have Tex Mex, of course!

Tonight we visited Santa Rita Tex Mex Cantina – it lived up to our expectations!

What we LOVED:
  • LOVED the vibrant atmosphere! Colorful deco.
  • Salsa had a great balance of spice. Yum! They were quick with refilling our chips & salsa. Did I mention chips & salsa = complimentary? BAM!
  • The queso was good. The small size was perfect for a family of 4.
  • Our server, Fernando, was super attentive. He had an awesome accent. We LOVED him. Ask to sit in his section!
  • Fajitas were delicious. We had the chicken & beef combo with black beans & all the works. The meat had GREAT flavor. Highly recommend the fajitas.
You won’t miss out if you pass on the:
  • The nachos weren’t anything special. Their happy hour is 3-7 pm on weekdays, and it was only $4. No biggie, but there wasn’t anything special about them.

Our awesome server gave us a customer appreciation card for 20% our next meal to welcome us to Austin. If it’s your first time there, let him know, and he’ll hook you up! Cheers!
